Asian Delta: Attractions
16 - Way of the Dragon
(Height: 51 in.)
This is the longest and most intense roller coaster in both Markersea and the Markerland Resort. Here, guests master the Way of the Dragon on this thrilling coaster.
QUEUE:
Located on the far side of the land is an ancient Chinese temple. Here, guests walk across a bridge and into the temple, passing under the sign of the attraction. As they go through, they see statues of Ancient Chinese warriors. The one common thread, as explained in another room through Chinese writings translated into English, is that they were all masters of an ancient form of martial arts known as the Way of the Dragon.
Guests then proceed into a locker room, where they put their belongings in lockers. Afterwards, they pass through a metal detector, making sure they don't have anything on them. They proceed up ramps and pass by black and white projections, where they are introduced to a Kung-Fu Master named Master Li. He will be teaching the guests how to master these skills.
Then, the guests will find the coaster. It is a gray roller coaster designed to look like a dragon. There are three carts on it, all of which have three rows of two. Once in, guests pull their lap bars down and hold on.
RIDE EXPERIENCE:
The coasters go into a cave, where it stops. Here, Master Li declares how they will begin with a wall climb, and then counts down before the coaster launches. It goes up a top hat and goes outside, going down through a forest. Li congratulates them and announces their next trial, the double dragon loop. The coaster then goes through two loops, one normal loop and one non-inverting loop. After this, Master Li congratulates them.
They then go through a move called the serpent's sway, which has them weave around rocky spires. After this, Li orders them to do a move called the river spin, where they go down to the river and do a barrel roll over it. After that is the circle of speed, where the guests move around a Chinese pagoda before starting to head back.
After congrats from Li, the coaster moves into the next move, the wall runner. Here, guests go sideways, moving to the left and then to the right. Then, they attempt the double jump, in which they go over two small hills over a chasm. For the finale of the ride, they do a spin jump. They head up a hill and do a barrel roll as they go up, heading right into a cave as they do. After a drop, they begin to slow down and see an animatronic Li. He congratulates them for completing their training and bids them farewell. After this, the vehicles return to the station.
POST-RIDE:
On their way back to the bridge area, guests will gather their belongings from the lockers and then proceed back outside of the temple.
17 - Garden of the Zodiac
In the Chinese village is a garden with statues of the Twelve animals of the Chinese Zodiac. Here, guests can learn about their Zodiac animal and what it means.
18 - The Questers Expedition: Temple of the Jade Warrior
(Height: 40 in.)
Guests travel deep into an Ancient Chinese temple in search of lost treasure, but must escape the wrath of the supernatural guardian of the temple, the Jade Warrior.
BACKSTORY:
For some time, the Society of Exploration, Archaeology, Life, and Science (S.E.A.L.S.) has taken interest in a mysterious temple located in the forests of China. According to legend, this temple, built around 2500 BC, is the home to many treasures belonging to several dynasties of Chinese Emperors. S.E.A.L.S. sent an expedition there to research it, but they all disappeared.
To investigate this, Dr. Cyrus Benbow, alongside Melanie and Sebastian Quester, have come in looking for this lost expedition. But as they and the guests go in, they will discover that this is no ordinary temple.
QUEUE:
Guests travel through an abandoned exploration camp, where artifacts from the expedition are stored in white tents. Alongside this, guests see old automobiles, a box shipping to Nice, as well as photographs of characters such as Miguel Hernan, Anne Willis, and Jeanne LeFevere. Then, guests go under the track for Way of the Dragon and see the temple carved into the mountain.
As guests travel through the temple, torches light the way. On the walls are faded drawings of the Jade Warrior, the mysterious guardian of the temple (perhaps this is a warning for explorers, telling of what resides in here. As the guests go through, they also see some deactivated booby traps, such as rocks that have fallen from the ceiling, darts on the wall, and spiked walls closing in, held apart by a metal barrier that has been placed in the room.
Soon, guests will enter a room where a recording from Dr. Benbow is. Here, he explains the backstory of the ride and sends guests on their way. After that, guests go into the loading station, where they board old-fashioned automobiles. They sit up to six people with two rows of three. This is the same kind of ride system used for Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland.
RIDE EXPERIENCE:
The vehicles start by going through a dark passageway, while foreboding music plays. On the left are some skeletal remains of past victims to the temple. Then, as the car approach a door, it opens up for them. Here, guests see a long hallway. At the end is a British explorer who has been caught in a trap and is covered in ropes. When he sees the guests coming, he panics.
Explorer: "Oh no, you shouldn't be here! This is a cursed place! If you come for the gold, they'll kill you!"
Suddenly, a green warrior designed to look like a Terracotta Warrior comes out of nowhere, glowing as the room fills with an ominous green light. As the vehicles continue to approach, it looks at them.
Jade Warrior: "Who dares to enter my temple? You shall now meet your fate!"
The vehicles turn to the right and enter a room filled with treasure. At the end of the room is a misty area where the Jade Warrior's face appears.
Jade Warrior: "Is this what you came here for? Ha! You will not take any treasure. Instead, you shall meet your doom!"
The vehicles then move into a chamber filled with strange red light. As the ceiling begins to descend, Melanie and Sebastian are seen in the room, pushing poles up to keep it from crushing the guests.
Melanie: "Let me guess. Benbow sent you here!"
Sebastian: "You shouldn't have come. Just get out while you still can!"
The vehicles then exit the room and head down a dark tunnel, where axes come from the walls. Luckily, the cars dodge them and proceed into a large room with a pool of water. They teeter on the edge, trying to avoid crocodiles snapping their teeth, before crossing a bridge. A giant dragon statue breathes fire at them (really just red-colored mist) but they make it across safely. On the other side, guests come across a room with Terracotta warriors, which come to life and try to shoot arrows at them. Puffs of air overhead illustrate this.
The vehicles enter a room where they go up to the second floor of the temple. Here, they see the face of the Jade Warrior again, warning them that there is no escape.
As they turn left, guests can see the pool area from below. They then enter a room with walls, which suddenly have bugs crawling all over them. The vehicles flee this room and go down a dark tunnel. Turning on the lights, they see bats on the ceiling (it just had to be bats, didn't it?). A puff of air makes it feel like one of them has flown overhead.
The cars then pass through a room that seems to be falling apart. As they go through, parts of the floor go down as well as some of the ceiling. Luckily, they get out just in time. It seems as if they've finally made it out of the temple, when they see Melanie and Sebastian again. However, the end of the hall opens up with a flood of water rushing towards them. The siblings get out of the way as the water approaches. There is only one way to escape it.....and that is a sudden drop down into the dark.
After this, guests hear the Jade Warrior shouting in rage. They then emerge into a nearby area, where Melanie and Sebastian appear again with Dr. Benbow. They are relieved that they escaped, but tell them to be careful next time as the automobiles return to the unload area. Once there, guests get off their vehicles.
POST-RIDE:
Guests follow a secret passage out of the temple and to a plane hangar, which has been converted into the S.E.A.L.S. Gear gift shop. Here, guests can buy Questers merchandise as well as see photos of them taken on the ride.
