Paradise Islands: Attractions
22 - Escape from Mount Pele
(Height: 44 in.)
This thrilling log flume/roller coaster hybrid sends guests through Mount Pele on a thrilling adventure as they face the wrath of Pele, the volcano goddess.
QUEUE:
Before getting on the coaster, guests go through several huts the build the backstory. Here, they learn about Pele, the Polynesian goddess of volcanoes. Here, some geologists are going inside the temple to see some interesting rock formations, even though the natives warned them not to do it. Regardless of this guests hop on a wooden canoe that sits up to ten people with five rows of two. Guests climb in and pull down their lap bars.
RIDE EXPERIENCE:
The ride starts off rather peacefully. It's going through the jungle, hearing the birds sing, and then it goes into the caves. There, they see crystals all around, which some scientists are trying to extract. Then, guests go through a tunnel into darkness.
Then, guests go through a hidden temple, filled with Polynesian masks and tikis. They approach a gateway that opens up and reveals a fiery woman, who is furious that someone has disturbed her home. Angered by this, she redirects the boats to the left, sending them into an elevator. This takes guests to the second floor of the building, where the coaster part begins. As projections of fire monsters appear on the walls, guests speed through the mountain, going through twists and turns. There are also outdoor portions where they can see parts of Paradise Islands, Asian Delta, Port of Adventure, and Oceanland. Soon, they will escape these things and drop into t a pool of water.
At that moment, guests enter into an unload station, where someone gives a safety spiel and.....PSYCH! Similar to Orlando's Revenge of the Mummy attraction, this has a fake ending. The person in the booth breaks the glass, revealing themselves to be Pele in disguise. Then, the boats launch up a hill, going up until they reach a waterfall. They go down the waterfall and into a drop. This would be the first ride to ever be launched up into a log flume drop. After that, the boats return to the loading station and get off.
POST-RIDE:
Guests go into the Sunshine Shack trading post, where guests can buy Polynesian merchandise as well as merchandise themed to the ride. Plus, they can see photos taken of them on the ride.
